Giddings and Webster Mouthpieces are producing a new
Harry Watters Signature Model trombone mouthpiece. The superb
craftsmanship exhibited by Giddings & Webster represents a huge leap
forward in mouthpiece production. Ivan and Bob are true artists who pay
meticulous attention to all design details. My new Signature Model
Mouthpiece provides excellent response, unequaled flexibility &
unparalleled comfort in every performance scenario. Many thanks, guys!

I'm proud to announce the release of
my new CD, Love Songs. This CD features an acoustic quartet setting, with
Dan Roberts on piano, Steve Fidyk on drums, and Glenn Dewey on bass.
A quote from Ron Nethercutt: This musical
journey covers familiar roads, but with a different vehicle. Hopefully
you and yours will find your favorite love song here; some old, some
borrowed, some blue, but all great music played by a wonderful
trombonist. Enjoy.

Greetings from our nation's capital. I hope each & every bone lover is
thoroughly enjoying his or her summer. Just remember, while you enjoy
this season of sun & fun, we are working hard to keep jazz safe for
democracy.
Despite a busy performance schedule, the need for effective practice
techniques remains a priority. Often, preparing for a series of solo
performances is similar to putting out a sequence of brush fires. Here's
some tricks I use to make the most of limited practice time:
1. Keep a detailed practice journal!
2. Turn off the phone. The need for total concentration is essential.
3. Practice in short increments of 25-45 minutes throughout the day.
4. Include "toys" in your sessions such as a metronome & a chromatic
tuner that plays pitches loudly. Heck, you can even plug the tuner into
the stereo, crank it up & check your intervals at a S-L-O-W tempo. Most
importantly, use a recording device every day (trust me on this one).
The act of listening back to yourself playing an etude or performing a
solo with your band is the best teacher of all. Make sure to listen for
pitch, technical accuracy, tone quality & musicality. My latest
acquisition is a Sony MD player/recorder. They're cheap now!
